The most associated cause of prints appearing too muted can be caused by either the screen you are viewing your image file having too much contrast or the media selection (i.e. paper) not ideal of the type of image you plan to print.
As an example, some papers may be make your darks not stand out as much as others. This is generally a property of the media itself the image is printed on. For instance, a glossy or satin surface tends to show deeper darks while some matte papers may not display as dark. Consider experimenting with small prints too see which is most pleasing to your eye.
Another problem which can cause this is submitting files in CMYK. We recommend files be RGB. You can learn more about why we prefer RGB.
Other things you can do is to soft proof with the ICC Printer Profile for the paper or canvas being printed on. This requires a program like Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom but when properly conducted with improve the results considerably. There are many videos on YouTube that can walk you through this process, including ones within our own YouTube channel which goes into great detail on this topic.
